Dhaba – Connaught Place

Dhaba. On a chilly October evening, when the body and mind could not consent if the atmosphere was cool or warm, we set out to find a place for dinner at Connaught Place or simply CP. The basic need to satisfy hunger is quite naturally fulfilled by eating indigenous food and for me it has to be quintessentially Indian.

Whilst prowling in CP to grab some Indian food we were drawn towards Dhaba, since 1986. It is an Indian restaurant serving North Indian food. Upon exiting CP metro station from Gate 1 or 2 scan the esplanade of neon sign lit aisle and Dhaba signage is noticed easily. It is located in the first floor along with two other restaurants. There is a front desk with adjoining seating for people to wait. The wait for us was brief since a previous reservation was cancelled, right at the moment we went enquiring.

Ambience

The restaurant is large and spacious with quirky wall decor and tasteful ambient lighting. Its warm and inviting with adequate space between tables so that aroma and burps from the adjoining table does not spoil your mood. The music was loud for us and the volume could be further lowered so that guests could converse without straining their voices.

Food

The menu is simple and too the point. We ordered a simple meal since it was dinner time, and we eat conservatively. The ultimate comforting North Indian soul food, Butter Naan, Chicken Tikka and Aloo (potato), Gobhi (cauliflower), Tamatar (tomato) curry. The Butter naan was lip smacking and dripping in butter. The portion of chicken tikka was large, perfectly spiced and juicy from inside. The Aloo, Gobhi, Tamatar was perfectly balanced and smoked to enrich the flavour.

Pricing

The pricing is reasonable considering the upmarket location, comfort and prompt service. We did not have alcohol which would certainly beef up the costs.

Conclusion

Dhaba is a good restaurant serving delicious, lip-smacking North Indian food. It has positive vibes and a comfortable feel. I would definitely visit it again and recommend readers to try it out.
